AppMaker is an application for generating the user interface, and the source code behind it, for a new or existing Macintosh application. AppMaker saves development time and cuts drudgery by letting you create menus, windows, dialogs, and alerts just by clicking and dragging to arrange what you want on the screen. With one command, AppMaker automatically generates the source code for the user interface you've designed, for selected modules or for the entire application. You can choose either C or Pascal, for MPW or THINK language systems. In addition to traditional programming languages, AppMaker supports object-oriented programming using the THINK Class Library in either C or Pascal.
This folder contains four files in addition to this Read Me First document: Demo AppMaker, DemoApp, AppMaker Stack, and Demo Manual.
Demo AppMaker is a fully functioning version of AppMaker with the limitation that it can't open existing files, and the generated code can't be compiled or linked because the library routines that come with the full AppMaker application are not included.
DemoApp is a sample AppMaker file that shows many of the user interface elements you can create and arrange in AppMaker. It was created in just a few minutes of pointing and clicking. AppMaker then generated complete, ready-to-run source code that was compiled and linked with AppMaker library routines to produce DemoApp. By exploring DemoApp, you'll see hierarchical and pop-up menus, picture menus, MacPaint-style palettes, scrollable lists, custom controls, such as picture buttons and sliders, and many more of the user interface elements you can create in AppMaker quickly and intuitively without any programming. The programmer has only to program the functions behind the user interface, not the menus, scroll bars, buttons, and other visible elements.
AppMaker Stack is a HyperCard stack which describes most of AppMaker's features.
Demo Manual is extracted from the AppMaker documentation. It contains a Quick Tour of AppMaker with step-by-step instructions for creating DemoApp.
To run Demo AppMaker, you need a Macintosh Plus, SE, SE/30, or II family computer with an 800K disk drive and System Tools version 5.0 or later.
All of these demo files can be copied and used by you or others to evaluate the AppMaker application.
